You’re probably itching to make money on your website, and you want it now. After all, you are an ambitious entrepreneur – and having a business website is a means to an end: income.

And it will come… if you are patient and don’t try to sell too early on your site. But if you immediately put up a sales letter website page on your one page website, you will instantly lose credibility with your visitors.

Think about it in a real-world example… Let’s say a shopkeeper has not even fully set up his storefront or have anything useful/helpful for you — would you be responsive to the shopkeeper pushing you for a sale upfront as you pass by for the first time?

More likely, you would run the other way!

Instead, you would go to the shop where you know the owner, a friendly and warm person who offers you coffee, offers to help you, and whom you truly like.

The second store owner would win hands down… no contest! Simply because she has built her brand as a credible, helpful and likable expert first – before gently leading her visitors to the sale or (because she’s never pushy) just continuing to help until her visitors approach her.

Aim to win and maintain long-term business relationships, and never be that guy (the first store owner).

Bottom line: Give Before You Get. Monetize only after you have built up some traffic and provided value for your visitors.
